How are the prizes awarded?

«The Golden Alkebulan» trophy is given to the winners of the African Media Awards on the day of the ceremony in Addis Abiba representing the best media voices on the continent.

Each nominee in each category will receive $2,000  $and the winners will take home $6,000  $in total after the event.

Who can apply?

Journalists, production companies, TV channels and media organisations as well as social media outlets and their individual representatives are welcome to submit their entries for the African Media Awards.

What are the conditions and rules of participation?

Materials eligible for submission include video works first aired on TV or published via social media outlets no earlier than January 1, 2024.

Applicants may only submit one work per category. Each work may only be submitted once in a single category. Applicants may submit other works in other categories, with the maximum number of submissions equalling 7, which is the total number of categories.

What is the maximum length and file requirements for submitting videos?

The maximum length of the video entries depend on the category of the submission. Works should be submitted in MP4 format with a resolution of 1920 × 1080 or less.

What languages can be spoken on the submitted works and are translations necessary?

Any language spoken in Africa is acceptable. If the applicant can attach a file with English, French or Arabic subtitles, this will be helpful for the organisers but is not mandatory.

Who votes for the African Media Awards and how are the winners chosen?

A select Jury of independent professionals from the media sphere across the African continent take an in-depth look at each submission and cast individual votes ranking the applicants. The top nominees in each category are invited to attend the ceremony where the winners will be revealed.

Can I watch the video entries that have been submitted to the competition before the ceremony?

All submitted works will not be publicly available to view.
